The Gallery Week 63 – Practice Makes Perfect

For our eldest’s third birthday my parents gave him one of these fab balance bikes. Unfortunately it has sat in the garage, looking quite sad, because our big boy wasn’t quite big enough to tough the floor to push himself along. Well speed forward a few months and a bit of a growth spurt later, he can now touch the floor. However I think our son though that now he could touch the floor he would be off in a flash, like Daddy on his bike.

He’s really keen to try his bike and he asks for a go almost every day. Observing him though you can see he gets a bit bored and frustrated because it’s not as easy as his scooter. He wants to call it a day when he falls to the side and hits the tarmac. He sticks his tongue out so far in his concentration that it’s almost on the floor. We’ll keep encouraging him though, we won’t let him give up. We’ll show him how to get back on his bike when he falls and hopefully, in a few weeks, he will find that practice might not make perfect, but it will be a lot easier then when he first started.

This week’s Gallery prompt was 3 word Gallery. Visit Sticky Fingers for more Gallery entries.

  1. Aww. Keep persevering. I am a firm believer that when they’re ready they’re ready. My daughter and I fought for 2 years over her unwillingness to try her bike. Then she just got it, and I was so proud. As long as he’s having fun it’s all good. Have a look at mine:

  2. He looks like he’s almost getting it!! Soon you won’t be able to get him off it!

  3. Oh!! I bought one of these for my little one and he went thro the same thing. It takes a while, but honestly, I have had to surgically remove it from him on numerous occasions. You’ll see – once he gets it he’ll be off and won’t want to stop. My 4yo still drags it out of the shed even tho’ he can ride a ‘big-boy’s bike!’
They can get up to some phenomenal speeds on them once they get going.
    Don’t worry :-) x

(great pics too btw … )

I’m gutted I never found you here before, but I’m sure you’re stopping for all the right reasons. The blogging world is a tough one. I think you have to have a very clear direction and stick to it. I don’t blog like that either and have an average of between 5-15 page hits a day. But then I guess I never started out to target the masses … more as an outlet for my buzzing head! ;-)
Good luck with whatever you do next, but stick around on Twitter?? I for one would miss you if you went.
    MJM x
